Search Engine Friendly Web Content Management Solutions - The Key to Online Success

Often shortened to "WCM" or "CMS," Web Content Management refers to the technologies regarding management of content for web publication of content.

We find Web Content Management Solutions through our many partners and our goal is always to find the best CMS possible-a system that fits your needs. Working with clients like Vodafone, Hewlett Packard Iceland, Edda Publishing House, The Blue Lagoon, and Keflavik International Airport, we have developed systems that increase internet visibility and connection to inner systems. Choosing the right WCMS is a make-or-break for a company's success on the internet.

Marketing Departments and IT departments have a different perspective on what marks the qualities of a good WCMS because their goals are not the same. From the marketing point of view, the WCMS needs to be flexible and be able to adapt to a fast-changing environment, especially if the company is using the internet as a marketing tool. The IT department is looking for a stable system that sits well on their servers. Through years of experience, we know that often these two departments do not speak the same language.

FAQ's Regarding WCMS

Q. Why are so many WCMS's not search engine friendly?
A. Many Web Content Management Systems have been built to make it easier for the end user to work with content to add, edit, or delete pages.  Many WCMS will pass multiple variables or parameters in the browser and/or create bad HMTL making it difficult for a search engine to index your page. Some systems even don't allow you to work with the title or META-data like "Description" and "Keywords," actually making them literally Search Engine Hostile Web Content Management Systems.

Q. Why does dynamic content have a hard time being indexed?
A. Here is an example of an URL that would give a robot or a spider trouble with getting indexed

www.sitename.com/index.asp?pageid=3&sort=no&language=en&subid=35

As you can see, the "?" and "&" are parameters.  Many SEO professionals have concluded that more than one or two parameters or variables in a URL will make it difficult for a web site to get listed. Search engines have shown unwillingness to index such pages. These types of URLS are also human unfriendly and are difficult to distribute.

But it is not as simple as that. Content management systems are only search engine friendly when they generates search engine friendly URL. Generating bad HTML can also be a big factor, and having only Javascript navigation or no access to the HTML title can also contribute, so there are many things to consider.

Q. What WCMS should I choose?
A. We will find the system that suites your criteria and budget. Use the advise above, but realize that it is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to selecting the right WCMS. Let us make your decision an easy one... and the right one.
